Keeping Old Trees Standing

Trees of this age usually need support rather than replacement. Cabling and bracing holds a split union or a heavy lateral limb together, and structural pruning reduces what the wind can catch before that becomes a failure.
Where a tree really is finished, removal on these lots means working around a house, established plantings and usually a fence line, followed by stump grinding. If the decline is a disease, plant health care comes first: an old tree is often still treatable well after it starts to look past saving.

Old trees on historic property raise questions a saw does not answer. A tree health assessment puts a condition and a likely timeline on paper, which matters when a tree is shared with a neighbor or stands over a right of way, and liability consulting settles who carries the risk if it fails.
